Mead still in progress!
The day I made the Cherry Bomb mead, I used water to rinse out any honey still in the pail I used to weigh out honey earlier that day, as well as our old Orange Blossom pail, which was almost empty. I poured that honey water into a new bucket, and took a gravity reading.
My initial reading was 1.050, which was a bit low for my taste. I added a little bit more of our newer clover honey, got the gravity up to 1.072, and called it good.
So this is a "scrap" mead, mostly made from leftover honey. Also, I haven't managed to make a good traditional yet, so it seemed like a good opportunity to try again.
"Hydromel" is technically a misnomer here. I believe it's still going to finish close to 10% ABV, which no longer qualifies. But at the moment, my brain defaults to hydromel if I'm not allowing the yeast to hit their ABV tolerance, and by the time I realized it might not fit I'd kinda already stuck "hydromel" on all the labels. Haha
